THe fixer

Fixer walking.jpg

I created The Fixer at the Chicago Sun-Times in 2005, and expanded it nationwide for ABC News in 2012. Over its run, The Fixer has recovered more than $2 million for its readers, viewers and listeners (including lots of $50 cell phone bill corrections)!

In more than 30 segments for ABC News’ “Weekend Good Morning America,” The Fixer solved problems big and small and gave advice on such topics as:

  • Disappearing cellphone rebates
  • Auto repairs gone bad
  • Mishandled tax returns
  • Insurance woes
  • Free trial rip-offs
  • Debit and gift card problems
  • Fraudulent towing
  • Mobile payment scams

And many more! The Fixer also saved a couple houses from foreclosure and brought more than one reader back from the dead.

Over the past dozen years, The Fixer has also appeared in print, online, in radio segments and local television news programs. Its strength is its direct connection with the audience. Viewers, readers and listeners see The Fixer as their friend and adviser, and in this time of polarization, we all can agree on pocketbook issues.

I love using my journalism skills to untangle problems – and connect with people who might lead me to a larger story.

Here are some examples of my Fixer work in video and print:
